Many people collect coins. Others simply have them and spend them as needed. However, did you know that there are valuable 2 euro coins?
In fact, many of those ways can suppose a good extra peak for your economy. So, if you are one of those who collect or have many 2 euro coins, you could have a real treasure without realizing it. How about I tell you what they are?
San Marino 2004
This is one of the most valuable 2 euro coins in existence. It was minted, as I told you, in 2004 by numismatist Bartolomeo Borghesi.
Each coin of this type can cost up to 150 euros. And, as a side note, another version of these coins was minted in 2012. The problem is that there was a mistake and, instead of writing 2012, they wrote 3012. So there are a few coins with this mistake that could end up being worth a lot more.
We warn you, though, that it's not easy to get the latter.
French 2 euro coin from 2001
You might think that 150 euros is not much for a 2 euro coin. And yes, it is true, it is a lot, but it is not going to get you out of poverty. But what if I told you that there is a 2 euro coin so valuable that you could get up to 5000 euros? Well, yes, it exists and it is from the neighbouring country, France.
In 2001, France minted a coin with the national side featuring the design of a tree of life, Designed by Joaquin Jimenez. This tree was surrounded by the motto of the French Republic, which, in case you didn't know, is "Liberté, Egalité, Fratenité."
What problems were there? Many, and that is what makes it so valuable. It is true that on the Internet you can find it for 40 euros or more, but at an auction it was sold for 5000 euros. That one in particular had minting errors, For example, the two zeros from 2001 were slightly raised and stuck to the gold part of the coin, or the stars in the proposed area were not centered.
Vatican 2005
This time we are going to Italy, and more specifically to the coins that were minted to celebrate the 2005th Youth Day in XNUMX. These coins are characterized by having the Cologne Cathedral and a comet passing over it simulating the star of Bethlehem.
And, in case you don't know, Legend has it that the Three Wise Men who followed that star are buried there.
Well, one of these coins can sell for up to 400 euros.
And it is not the only one, because the Vatican's 2 euro coin from the following year, of which only 100000 were issued, is also valuable. This one was made to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Swiss Guard and its price is 200 euros per coin.
Also related to the Vatican is the 2007 coin commemorating Pope Benedict XVI, which can cost up to 250 euros and of which 100000 copies were minted.
On it you will see Benedict's profile looking to the left and an engraving with the date of issue and the engraver's initials.
Monaco 2007 and other years
This is another of the valuable 2 euro coins that, if you have it, will give you enough money for a few Happy Holidays, or an extra. They are sold for between 2500 and 3000 euros each.
What's so special about the coin? To begin with, we're talking about a coin whose mintage was only 20000 coins. But, in addition to that, it's that The coin featured an image of the American actress and Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly.
The coin was minted to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his death, which occurred in an accident in 1982.
However, there is not only this valuable coin from Monaco. The 2015 commemorative coin, with a design of the Monte Carlo tower, can be worth around 1500 euros. And much less, just 500 euros, would be what you would get with the 2 euro Monaco coin from 2016, commemorative for the anniversary of the founding of Monte Carlo.
But not only those. The one of 2017, which was launched in honour of the carabinieri company of Prince Charles III, With a print run of 15000 units, it also has a value that can range between 600 and 1200 euros.
This one in particular has the design of a soldier in a 1817th-century uniform and an officer in a dress uniform. The background is the entrance to the Prince's palace. It also reads “2017-XNUMX / Carabiners du Prince”.
And continuing with Monaco, You have the one from 2018, which was for the 250th anniversary of the birth of François-Joseph Bosio which shows the bust of the artist and one of his sculptures, the Nymph of Salmacis. This can be worth up to 700 euros. Or the one from 2019, for the 200th anniversary of the throne of Honoré V, showing Prince Honoré and bearing a three-part inscription: “Honoré V”, “Monaco” and “1819 – Avenement – 2019”.
Lithuania 2021
In this case, we go to Lithuania, which, in 2021, launched a 2 euro coin with a very small mintage, because only 500 of them were made. This served to commemorate the Zuvintas Biosphere Reserve and the design had the Reserve on the face of the coin.
However, it is not really valuable (and you can get up to 2000 euros for it) because of its scarcity, but because it had a flaw. And that is, on the edge of the coin, instead of writing Dievs, Sveti, Letviju, which is God bless Latvia; they wrote Laisvé, Vienybé, Gerové, which means Freedom, Unity, Well-being. Hence it is so highly prized, especially by collectors trying to find it.
As you can see, there are many valuable 2 euro coins. So my recommendation is to check all the ones you have. You never know if you could have one and get rid of it so easily. Of course, when it comes time to sell them, it won't be so easy to get them bought for the price you ask, but you could get a good chunk of change and at least see that their value is not just 2 euros, but goes beyond that. Do you know of any more?
