Zaragoza City Council strengthens its support for conciliation and expands the family check to reach all eligible family units, with a focus on households with children aged 0 to 3 who do not have a place in municipal nursery schools.
To meet all the validated demand, the City Council will increase the allocation, ensuring that no correct application is left out, and that the aid amounts remain between €700 and €1.000.
What changes with the expansion?
The amounts remain between €700 and €1.000 per family, but the priority by income so that the largest amount reaches those who need it most.
Family units with the lowest incomes will receive the upper bracket, targeting the measure to alleviate the cost of childcare and early schooling and improve conciliation.
Requirements and amounts
The program follows a clear social criterion and premium for lower-income households, in addition to focusing on the 0 to 3 year stage.
- Children between 0 and 3 years old at home.
- Not having a place in Municipal Infant Schools.
- Amounts: €700–1.000; 1.000 € for incomes below €20.000 for couples and €10.000 for single-parent families.
- Final aid for conciliation and childcare expenses.
In this way, the family check acts as direct oxygen for the domestic economy at a key moment in childcare.
Applications and payment status
This year they have registered more than 2.260 requests of families with children aged 0 to 3. After the review, 58 files were excluded for not meeting requirements, and 1.520 had to be corrected.
With the provisional list published, they have already been paid nearly 700 grants and the City Council plans to complete payments throughout this month, once the documentary issues have been resolved.
Less paperwork and faster processing
The City Council is working on the administrative simplification for the next edition, reducing the information to be provided and exploring artificial intelligence tools that streamline management so that families know how to ask for help.
Third edition and balance sheet
This is the third time that the grant has been awarded and, since the pilot started in 2022, the City Council has allocated more than 4 million euros, with some 4.000 families benefiting.
During this time we have sought to address all applications validated without the need for additional assessment, adjusting the budget when necessary to cover demand.
Next call
The municipal forecast is to open the next process just after paying the last aids from the previous period, in order not to interrupt support to families.
With the budget reinforcement up to 1,6 millones de euros, priority by income and reduction of procedures, Zaragoza seeks that the family check reaches those who need it: amounts of € 700 to € 1.000, ongoing payments, and a schedule that links to the next call so as not to leave anyone behind.
