Spanish household savings continue to rise. According to the latest data published by the Bank of Spain, household deposits reached €1,114 trillion at the end of June , representing a 0,7% increase compared to the previous month. This figure consolidates the upward trend that has been maintained for several months, with year-on-year growth of 4%.
In absolute terms, the banking system registered an additional €7.2 billion in household deposits during the sixth month of the year, while the cumulative increase over the last twelve months has reached €42.8 billion. This figure confirms that household savings remain above €1 trillion, a level that has not been exceeded since the end of 2022.
Evolution of household savings since the pandemic
The Bank of Spain notes that household savings behavior changed dramatically during the health crisis, when uncertainty led to greater liquidity accumulation. This trend was only briefly interrupted in August 2022, when households withdrew nearly €3.8 billion from their deposits. However, the balance recovered rapidly in the following months and has since remained stable above €1 trillion. Analysts attribute this trend to the improved returns offered by financial institutions following the cycle of interest rate hikes.
Business deposits are also on the rise
Non-financial corporations also increased their liquidity in June. Their deposit balances reached €375.500 billion , 2,3% higher than in May, equivalent to an additional €8.500 billion. Compared to the same month last year, the growth is 8,2%, representing an increase of €28.300 billion. This performance reflects an improvement in corporate cash flow, possibly linked to economic activity and business confidence.
Total aggregate of deposits in Spain
Adding together all deposits held by residents in Spain, the total savings figure rises to €1,781 trillion , some €25.400 billion more than in May and €71.500 billion more than in June 2025. Including deposits held by residents abroad, the total exceeds €1,88 trillion, representing a monthly increase of €20.500 billion and an annual increase of €92.900 billion. These figures, published by the Bank of Spain, show that both households and businesses are maintaining positive growth in their bank savings.
With these figures, the Spanish financial system has consolidated a first half of 2026 in which household and business savings continued to grow, driven by a context of still-high interest rates and higher returns on deposits. This trend, which began after the pandemic, remains strong and reinforces the economy's financing capacity, although experts warn that inflation continues to erode the purchasing power of these savings if they are not channeled into higher-yielding products.
