CaixaBank achieves record profit in the first half of the year, driven by its lending business

  • Net profit reached 3.203 billion euros, 8,5% more than the previous year.

CaixaBank closed the first half of the year with a net profit of €3.203 billion, an 8,5% increase compared to the same period last year. The bank achieved these figures thanks to strong commercial activity , with sustained growth in loans and customer deposits.

The bank, which serves 20,9 million customers in Spain and Portugal, has registered more than 1,1 million new customers in Spain over the past twelve months. Furthermore, the number of individuals with direct deposit of their salary has increased by 210.000 , reaching 6,4 million, reflecting improved customer loyalty and the acquisition of new clients.

Growth in credit and resources

The performing loan portfolio closed June at €398.835 billion, 8,2% higher than a year earlier. Business lending was the main driver, with a 10,6% increase , followed by consumer credit, which grew by 11,5%, and mortgage lending, with a 6,7% increase.

On the savings side, customer deposits reached €771.943 billion, a 7,6% year-on-year increase. Assets under management grew by 14,9% to €216.741 billion, driven by investment funds and pension plans.

The digital platform imagin closed the first half of the year with 4,2 million customers and a turnover of nearly €24.000 billion, 20% more than the previous year. imagin has established itself as a key driver for acquiring new customers , accounting for approximately half of all new sign-ups in Spain.

Evolution of revenue and profitability

Net interest income rose 2% to €5.390 billion, driven by growth in business volumes. Service revenue increased 7,4% to €2.772 billion, with notable gains in wealth management (+12,1%) and protection insurance (+14,5%), while bank fees fell 1,1% due to loyalty programs.

Gross profit reached €8.338 billion, up 3,7%, and operating profit reached €5.018 billion, a 3,2% increase. The efficiency ratio improved to 39,6% , one of the lowest levels in the sector, despite administrative and depreciation expenses growing by 4,5% to €3.320 billion, due to the collective bargaining agreement and the addition of technology professionals.

Financial strength and shareholder remuneration

The bank maintains a strong capital position, with a CET1 ratio of around 12,5%. The non-performing loan ratio has fallen below 1,8% , reaching 1,78%, with a coverage ratio of 81% and a stable cost of risk of 0,24%.

Regarding shareholder remuneration, the board of directors plans to approve in October an interim dividend of between €961 million and €1.281 billion, charged against the 2026 results, to be paid in November. The dividend policy remains at between 50% and 60% of net profit , with approximately half of that dividend going to the "la Caixa" Foundation and the FROB (Fund for Orderly Bank Restructuring).

With these results, CaixaBank consolidates its position as one of Spain's leading banks, with balanced growth between loans and deposits, a return of 18%, and continuous improvement in credit quality. The bank has demonstrated its ability to generate profits in a less favorable interest rate environment , thanks to strong commercial activity and diversified revenue streams.
